Description

HDPE BL3 (also known by the grade name HF-4760) is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin specifically designed for blow moulding applications. It is a copolymer containing 1-Butene as a co-monomer. Manufactured by the suspension polymerisation of ethylene monomer, this grade is produced by companies such as Amir Kabir Petrochemical Co. and Maroun Petrochemical Co. under a Basell Licence, as well as by Jam Petrochemical, Arak, and Kermanshah. HDPE BL3 is one of the most widely used polymers globally.

  1. SABIC F10750: This grade shares similar properties with HDPE BL3, including density (0.954 g/cm³) and melt flow index (MFI) values, making it suitable for blow molding applications like small containers and bottles.
  2. LOTTE BL6200: Manufactured by Lotte Chemical in Korea, this grade is another blow molding HDPE with comparable characteristics to BL3.
  3. TOTAL 5502: A blow molding grade from Total Petrochemicals, suitable for similar applications as HDPE BL3.
  4. CERTENE HGB-0454: Produced by Muehlstein in the USA, this grade is also a viable alternative for blow molding purposes.

The key features of HDPE BL3 translate into significant real-world advantages for manufacturers and end-users:

  • Enhanced Durability: The high density, stiffness, impact strength, and ESCR contribute to long-lasting and reliable products.
  • Efficient Processing: Good flowability allows for faster cycle times and improved production efficiency in blow molding processes.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for a broad range of container sizes and types, catering to diverse industry needs.
  • Chemical Resistance: Ensures the safe containment of various substances, including pharmaceuticals and surfactants.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Good processability can lead to reduced production costs, and the durability of the material minimizes waste due to damage.
  • Maintains Product Integrity: High stiffness ensures containers can withstand handling and storage without losing their shape.
HDPE BL3’s unique properties make it ideally suited for a wide array of applications, effectively addressing the need for durable and chemically resistant containers:

  • Small Blow Moulding Bottles: Perfect for producing small bottles for various liquids and products.
  • Containers (up to 5-10 liters): Well-suited for manufacturing robust containers for household, industrial, and commercial use.
  • Packing of Pharmaceuticals & Surfactants: Its chemical resistance makes it an excellent choice for the safe and secure packaging of sensitive materials.
  • Sheets for Thermoforming: These can be used to produce sheets suitable for thermoforming processes.
  • Detergent and Medicine Bottles: The material’s properties meet the demands for packaging these specific product types.
  • Food Contact Applications: This grade is suitable for food contact, conforming to EEC regulations.
  • Other Potential Uses: Including water and gas pipes, large containers (over 500 litres), toys, chemical housings, and general plastic parts, depending on the specific grade and manufacturer.

HDPE BL3 boasts several distinctive features that contribute to its exceptional performance:

  • High Density: Provides excellent rigidity and structural integrity to finished products.
  • High Stiffness: Enables products to maintain their shape under load and resist deformation.
  • Good Flowability: Ensures smooth and efficient processing during blow molding, leading to higher productivity and versatility. It exhibits low melt viscosity and a high melt flow index.
  • Good Impact Strength: Offers resistance to sudden impacts, reducing the likelihood of breakage or cracking.
  • Good Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR): Provides excellent resistance to cracking when exposed to environmental stresses and aggressive chemicals, enhancing product lifespan and safety.
  • High Rigidity: Contributes to the overall robustness and durability of the molded parts.
  • Use of 1-Butene as Co-monomer: This contributes to the specific balance of properties achieved in HDPE BL3.
  • Available with Additives: Often contains antioxidants, process stabilizers, lubricants, and acid scavengers to further enhance its processing and performance characteristics.

HDPE BL3 is primarily targeted toward professionals and industries involved in:

  • Plastic Container Manufacturing: Companies specializing in blow molding of bottles and containers of various sizes (up to 5-10 liters).
  • Packaging Industry: Businesses require robust and chemically resistant packaging solutions for pharmaceuticals, surfactants, detergents, and other consumer and industrial products.
  • Thermoforming Companies: Manufacturers producing thermoformed sheets for various applications.
  • Chemical and Pharmaceutical Companies: Seeking reliable packaging for their products.
  • Consumer Goods Manufacturers: Producing items such as toys and household containers.

HDPE BL3 is typically supplied in the following format:

  • Form: Granules (Pellets).
  • Packaging: Generally packed in 25 kg PE bags.
  • Alternative Packaging: May be available for selected grades. For example, Marun Petrochemical Company offers packaging in 55 * 25 kg shrink-wrapped wooden pallets.
  • Minimum Order Quantity: This may vary, but a minimum order of 1000 kg has been mentioned.
  • Storage Recommendations: Should be stored in a dry and dust-free environment, away from direct sunlight and heat radiation, at temperatures below 50 °C.
  • It is recommended to process the PE resin within 6 months after delivery for optimal quality.
