HIPS 7240
Description
HIPS 7240 is a high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) specifically engineered for the extrusion industry. This material is characterized by its excellent impact resistance and good melt strength, making it suitable for various applications, particularly in deep-draw thermoforming. HIPS 7240 is typically diluted with crystal polystyrene grades, such as GPPS 1240, GPPS 1340, or GPPS 1540, to enhance its processing characteristics and performance. The product is available in a matte white color, which is commonly used in disposable items like cups and trays.
HIPS 7240 is versatile and widely used across several sectors:
- Extrusion: Ideal for producing sheets, containers (up to 5 liters), and coextrusions with materials like EVOH and PE.
- Thermoforming: Commonly utilized for manufacturing cups, trays, egg boxes, and general packaging solutions. It can also be diluted with crystal polystyrene for applications such as CD inserts and shoe heels.
- Other Uses: This material is prevalent in the production of toys, refrigeration insulation, and disposable tableware due to its flexibility and impact resistance.
HIPS 7240 is typically packaged in 25 kg plastic bags. It should be stored in a dry warehouse away from direct sunlight and fire to maintain its quality.
HIPS 7240 can be processed under various conditions depending on the machinery used and the specific articles being molded. During processing, small amounts of styrene monomer may be released; however, at concentrations between 50 to 100 PPM (the TLV value for styrene monomer), no adverse health effects are expected.
