PVC S57
Description
PVC S57 is a free-flowing vinyl chloride homopolymer resin having low molecular weight. It is manufactured by suspension polymerization.
- Low Molecular Weight: Enhances processability and reduces defects in finished products.
- K-Value: Ranges from 56 to 57, indicating the polymer’s flow characteristics and degree of polymerization.
- Inherent Viscosity: 0.66 to 0.72 (ASTM D 1243), reflecting the polymer’s viscosity in solution which affects molecular weight and processing ease.
- Apparent Bulk Density: 560 kg/m³ (ASTM D 1895), influencing handling, storage, and metering during processing.
- Particle Size Distribution:
- % Retained on Mesh 60 (250 μ): ≤6%
- % Passing through Mesh 200 (74 μ): ≤10%
- Indicates a fine particle size for uniform processing and product quality.
- Volatile Content: ≤0.4% (ASTM D 3030), showing low levels of impurities or moisture affecting processing and properties.
- Injection Molding: For producing pipe fittings and other rigid PVC parts.
- Sheet Extrusion: For manufacturing rigid films, compact and foamed rigid sheets.
- Calendering: For producing rigid films and sheets.
PVC S57 offers a balance of low molecular weight for enhanced processability and rigidity for demanding applications. Its fine particle size and low volatiles ensure consistent performance in manufacturing processes. The resin is designed to give an easy processing product for rigid applications due to its low melt viscosity.
PVC S57 should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, ideally in original packaging, with temperatures between +5°C to +25°C and not exceeding 50°C to prevent distortion and discoloration. It’s best to use the resin within six months of delivery for optimal performance. When handling, care should be taken to avoid damage during loading and unloading, using proper equipment, and ensuring that products are not stored near heat sources or in tightly enclosed areas. Additionally, avoid dropping or dragging the products to prevent compression or distortion, ensuring that they are properly supported to maintain their integrity.
